Our Organization

Who We Are

It began with one very simple idea. Children with disabilities deserve to play, too.

In 2000, we cut the ribbon on our very first playground in Los Angeles, making that idea a reality for our families.

Today, Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration has grown to a powerful network of 80 inclusive, sensory- and literacy-rich playgrounds throughout the world. We have playgrounds in Mexico, Israel, Canada, Ecuador, Russia and throughout the US. There are another 50 in development nationally, including in Argentina, South Africa, Armenia, the Dominican Republic and more.

Our education and community outreach programs, transform these playgrounds into classrooms where children with and without disabilities learn to see beyond their differences. These programs eliminate the damaging bias and social isolation that many children with disabilities face, and have reached over 55,000 students in more than 250 schools.

Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration also inspires and empowers teachers to make their school communities more inclusive through our professional development trainings, and our curriculum has been distributed in 67 countries.

This multi-faceted, inclusive movement has expanded on to four continents, with a fifth in the works. In 2015, we made a commitment to promote literacy through play in partnership with Too Small To Fail and Landscape Structures Inc., bringing language prompts into our playground designs, helping to educate parents on their critical role in their child’s early brain development. Our seasoned staff travel worldwide consulting on inclusive playgrounds and programs with a wide range of public and private partners.

Our vision is to foster a bias-free world for children with disabilities. Our mission is to create play, dignity and social equity for children with disabilities through inclusive playgrounds and education programs that unite children of all abilities.

Thank you for being a part of Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration. You are helping continue a legacy that is spreading across the world… a legacy of inclusion, dignity, laughter, and play for all children.
