ABOUT CSUN CENTER OF ACHIEVEMENT / BROWN CENTER
The Center of Achievement through Adapted Physical Activity has been providing internationally recognized adapted fitness programs for people with disabilities since 1971. The Center brings hope and restoration to people with special needs in a caring and motivating environment.
The Center of Achievement offers both aquatic and land-based therapeutic exercise programs for individuals with special needs while training students and professionals in health and rehabilitation-related fields. The unique combination of academic programs and service-learning opportunities has contributed to making the Center one of the most successful programs in the nation. In addition, the Center is committed to providing evidence-based interventions and extending scientific knowledge to a larger community through clinical research.
The Mission of the Center of Achievement is to provide the most advanced long-term adapted exercise programs for people with special needs while demonstrating excellence in community service, academic programs and clinical research.
The Center is dedicated to promoting quality of life and functional independence of people with special needs through adapted physical activity.
In order to accomplish the mission, the Center is committed to:
- Enhancing the health and wellness of people with special needs through adapted physical activity.
- Offering extensive educational and clinical experience for students and professionals in health and rehabilitation.
- Conducting clinical research to advance scientific knowledge and evidence-based interventions.
- Promoting innovative programs through interdisciplinary efforts in collaboration with public and private sectors.
- Extending its resources to the larger community through classes, workshops, conferences and publications.
