Inclusive Schools Week is back!

For the past three years, 143 schools have joined this powerful movement in Los Angeles to celebrate the unique strengths, talents, and contributions of children of all abilities.

This year’s theme from the Inclusive Schools Network is:
“Together We Learn – Learning Grows Stronger When We Learn Together.”

This theme recognizes that true inclusion enriches learning for everyone. At Inclusion Matters, we know that one of the most powerful ways children learn is through play. True inclusion goes far beyond simply sharing a classroom, it is about creating environments where kids of all abilities play and learn together side-by-side. The playground is an essential classroom where children learn reciprocity, build deeper empathy, and grow stronger together.

Join us in creating activities and campaigns that reflect your school’s commitment to building environments where all children belong, play, and learn together during the week of
December 7th – 11th, 2026.

Celebration Ideas

  • Form an Inclusion Committee:
    Create a student team with and without disabilities to design your campus activities and inclusive recess games.
  • “Together We Learn” Reflection Project:
    Have students complete the prompt “We learn best together when…” or “I feel included when we play and learn together…”
    to create a monthly campus-wide inclusion guide built on shared student ideas.
  • Watch and Discuss (Elementary Grades):
    Screen an age-appropriate animated short film or read-aloud about inclusion to help our younger learners explore how
    welcoming someone new makes a community stronger.
  • Watch and Discuss (Upper Grades):
    Screen A World for Inclusion, a UNESCO documentary chronicling the global right to education, to spark meaningful
    advocacy discussions among older students.
