What is an inclusive playground?
It is a playground that includes ALL children, no matter their ability. We want to level the playing field for children with disabilities.
Rusty Long graduated from California State University Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation and Leisure Services with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. He began his career, with the City of Lakewood, an NRPA award winning municipality. There he developed the Therapeutic Recreation program for the city. One step onto a city playground launched a lifetime passion for all persons with physical and developmental challenges. His desire is for children of all abilities to play and engage side-by side. Drawn to the design end of accessible play environments, Rusty left the City of Lakewood and embarked on an over 30-year career with Little Tikes Commercial Play Systems and Gametime/Playcore, specializing in inclusive play environments. As a highly regarded speaker, Rusty has given over 100 professional presentations on inclusive play areas, elevating the importance of inclusion for children and adults with special needs.
